West Chicago, Ill. — Members of the media are invited to attend the groundbreaking celebration for the Northern Illinois Proton Treatment and Research Center—the first cancer treatment and research center of its kind in Illinois—at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the facility site in suburban West Chicago.
The $159 million state-of-the-art center will be located at 777 Discovery Drive in the DuPage National Technology Park, about 30 miles west of Chicago.
Proton therapy is an advanced, highly effective form of radiation treatment, utilizing proton beams to treat cancer. The noninvasive therapy is the treatment of choice for certain pediatric and adult cancers.
