NIU releases public parking information
for Sunday evening’s memorial service

DeKalb — Northern Illinois University will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday inside the NIU Convocation Center, 1525 W. Lincoln Hwy. Doors open at 5 p.m.

A public parking map is available online.

Here are details about public parking and entering the buildings.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Parking lots open at 4:30 p.m.
  • It is highly recommended to come early and to carpool.
  • I-88 traffic should use the Annie Glidden exit to Route 38 (Lincoln Highway).
  • Once the Convocation Center lots are full, traffic will be redirected to alternate lots.

SHUTTLES

There will be two shuttle pick-up sites that will bring attendees to the Convocation Center or to the auxiliary sites (Holmes Student Center, Barsema Visitor and Alumni Center or Student Recreation Center). One of the shuttles will pick up at Campus Cinemas on Blackhawk Road, and the other will pick up from the area behind Anderson Hall (Lots A, 40, B, 2, E and V). Shuttle buses will begin running at 4:30 p.m.

MEMBERS OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY ARE ENCOURAGED TO USE THE SHUTTLE.

ENTERING THE BUILDING

For your safety, staff will perform a courtesy search as you enter the building. Please be prepared for your search by emptying your pockets and taking off your jacket.

We ask that you NOT bring inside the following items:

  • Purses, bags or backpacks
  • Posters, signs or banners
  • Helium balloons
  • Umbrellas
  • Poles or sticks
  • Strollers
  • Food and beverages
  • Horns or noisemakers

Cameras smaller than your fist are allowed, but please leave camera bags in your car. No flash photography is allowed. Thank you for your cooperation.
