DeKalb — Whether looking to explore career paths through internships or trying to land that first job, Northern Illinois University students will have an opportunity to explore dozens of options in February, when NIU Career Services will host its annual Internship Fair and Spring Job Fair.
The Job Fair will be
Wednesday, Feb. 20 Wednesday, March 19, and the Internship Fair, Wednesday, Feb. 27. Both events will run from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. Admission to both events is free. They are open to the public, but a resume must be presented to gain entrance. Attendees should wear business attire and are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume to share with prospective employers.
Both events provide students an opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives from up to 200 companies and agencies offering internship and employment opportunities. Those attending will learn about hiring trends, the types of skills employers are looking for and what to expect from the interview process.
Information about companies and agencies that will be participating in the fairs and the types of positions they have to offer is available online at the NIU Career Services Web site (www.niu.edu/careerservices). Information also is available in the NIU Career Resource Center in Room 235 of the NIU Campus Life Building, located on the northeast corner of Lucinda Ave. and Normal Road in DeKalb.
The Career Resource Room also has information available to help students create or improve their resume or sharpen their interviewing skills. Students also can take advantage of a free 10-minute resume critique by visiting the Career Resource Center, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
Students planning to attend either the Internship Fair or the Job Fair can take advantage of a free shuttle that will run from the Holmes Student Center to the Convocation Center for the duration of both events.
