DE KALB – In commemoration of Women’s History Month, Northern Illinois University School of Art and the DeKalb Area Women’s Center are collaborating to present an Exhibition of Work by Women, Faculty and Graduate Students, on display March 1-30. NIU’s Department of Women’s Studies also is co-sponsoring the event.
The exhibition is the tenth consecutive annual NIU women’s art show held at the 1021 State Street venue, and also acknowledges 25 years of the Women’s Studies program at NIU, as well as the sesquicentennial year of the City of DeKalb.
Both the OnStage Gallery and the Great Hall Exhibition Space will feature recent drawing, painting, sculpture, computer imaging, beadwork, assemblage and installation work. Faculty members representing the NIU School of Art include Ashley Nason and Stacie Johnson. Among the graduate students are Jennifer Evans, Erin Coleman-Cruz, Kimberly Strom, Lisa Kay, Yen-Hua Lee and Christine Worley. The show’s curator, Greta Zakrzewska, also will exhibit at the show.
The DeKalb Area Women’s Center is located in the former Finnish Temperance Society Meeting Hall at 1021 State Street in DeKalb. Admission is free and the galleries are open to the public 7-9 p.m. Fridays, 2:30-4:30 p.m. first and third Saturdays, during special events and by appointment.
