Northern Star to host DeKalb mayoral debate
DeKalb -- The Northern Star, the student-run newspaper of Northern Illinois University, will sponsor a debate between the two DeKalb mayoral candidates on Wed., March 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Holmes Student Center Capitol Room.
The format of the debate will consist of several components, including speeches by the candidates on their approach to local growth, questions from the Star's editorial board, and questions the candidates ask each other. Audience members will also have the chance to submit their own questions prior to the debate.
“We are very excited to provide our readers with this opportunity to hear directly from the candidates,” said Kristin Cavarretta, editor in chief.
The Star decided to host a mayoral debate after the positive response it received from the state representative debate it organized last fall.

Who: Mayor Greg Sparrow, Candidate Frank Van Buer, the Northern Star Editorial Board, and voters within the City of DeKalb.
