DeKalb – The Operating Staff Council of Northern Illinois University will host the Seventh Annual State Civil Service Council/Senate Retreat on Friday, Oct. 15, in the Clara Sperling Sky Room of the Holmes Student Center on the DeKalb campus.
NIU also hosted the first annual gathering of civil service councils from the Illinois public universities.
Welcoming statements will be given by Andy Small, NIU retreat coordinator; Donna Smith, NIU Operating Staff Council president; Steve Cunningham, NIU associate vice president for Human Resources; and John G. Peters, NIU president. Tom Morelock, director of the State Universities Civil Service System, will provide an update on Merit Board issues, and the last presentation of the morning session will be given by Jim Hacking, director of the State Universities Retirement System.
The afternoon session will feature an update on legislative matters which concern higher education in Illinois. Presenters will be Sen. J. Bradley Burzynski (R-Sycamore), Rep. Robert Pritchard (R-Hinckley), and Kathy Buettner, NIU assistant to the president for government relations.
State universities sending representation to the retreat include: Chicago State University; Eastern Illinois University, Charleston; Governor’s State University, University Park; Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago; Northern Illinois University, DeKalb; Southern Illinois University Carbondale; Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield; University of Illinois at Chicago; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; University of Illinois at Springfield; and Western Illinois University, Macomb.
