Australian ambassador's visit postponed

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with deep regret that I must announce the postponement of the inaugural event for our new NIU Presidential Public Policy Lecture Series previously scheduled for this Tuesday, February 3, 2004.

The great thing about having important world figures participate in this new lecture series is the currency of knowledge they bring on global events.  Sometimes, that very currency and active involvement in important issues make sudden and unexpected demands on their time.  Such is the case with Australian Ambassador Michael Thawley, who is a key player in the ongoing trade negotiations between the United States and Australia. Those negotiations, which were expected to conclude last week, have stalled and have been pushed into next week.

The ambassador’s appearance is postponed until further notice. However, he has personally assured us that he will reschedule his address at his earliest opportunity.

The Presidential Public Policy Lecture Series was established to share the very best thinking of world experts on topics of great significance in our lives.  Global trade is just such an issue, and we continue to look forward to hearing the ambassador's perspective.

I extend my sincere apology for any inconvenience caused to you by this postponement, and I look forward to seeing you when this important event is rescheduled.

Sincerely,

John G. Peters

President, Northern Illinois University
