DeKalb, Ill. – Northern Illinois University’s Campus Activities Board Fine Arts is shaking off the cold of winter and getting toasty with the Hot Club of San Francisco appearing at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, in the Duke Ellington Ballroom on NIU’s DeKalb campus.
For over 10 years, the Hot Club of San Francisco has celebrated the influential Gypsy-jazz of the inspiring Hot Club de France and its versatile musicians, Django Reinhardt and Stephanie Grappelli. The Hot Club of San Francisco borrows the all-string instrumentation of the Hot Club of France, but brings to life its vivid, classical tunes while adding its own unique spin to the original works of the smoking lead guitarist, Paul Mehling.
Tickets are available now at the Holmes Student Center Box Office or by phone at (815) 753-3146. Tickets are $5 for NIU students with I.D.; $13 for NIU staff/faculty, children 8-18 and adults older than 65; and $16 for the general public. For more information on this event, or any other NIU Campus Activities Board sponsored event, call (815) 753-1580 or visit www.niu.edu.
The Fine Arts Series is sponsored by the Student Association of Northern Illinois University. Additional funding is provided by the Illinois Arts Council, in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Arts. Promotional assistance is provided by the Daily Chronicle, MidWeek, WDKB 94.9 (B95) and WNIU.
