Hardcore metal bands to rock NIU

DeKalb – NIU’s Campus Activities Board kicks off its spring semester of entertainment at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Holmes Student Center Diversions Lounge. This high caliber hardcore metal show, featuring a diverse range of local rock bands, is sure to please the fans of this genre.

Concert headliner Over and Over got its start during the summer of 1999 in Elgin with just three members. The original lineup burst onto the hardcore scene with a rough metal influenced sound that left their listeners in awe and wanting more. With the addition of a second guitarist, the band’s sound rounded out with a harder, more metallic edge. Its latest release, through Spook City Records in the summer of 2002, is titled “Forever and Ever.” With its in-your-face vocals and grinding guitar rhythms, Over and Over is a band not to be missed.

Afterproject is a Chicago area band well known in the underground scene. Note to Self Records and LLR Records gave the band an opportunity to join a label and create its first full length CD, and in March of 2002, “Manner” was released to resounding fan approval. The band’s seething lyrics and pounding rhythms make Afterproject a viable contender in the Chicago metal scene.

Undo Tomorrow is a Chicago-flavored hardcore metal band that is making the rounds and gaining credibility with every show. The band has played extensively throughout the Chicago area and has shared the stage with the cream of the Chicago metal crop. The band members describe their music as mosh-metal with a lot of breakdowns that definitely lead to a chaotic live show.

Opening the show will be Blood Dumpster, a band that’s sure to set the tone for an explosive night of Chicago hardcore metal music. Blood Dumpster is an up-and-coming band within the hardcore genre. Its distinctive sound will definitely convert new fans.
