DeKalb, Ill.--Varsity members of the NIU Forensics program traveled to California State University at Long Beach and turned in a strong showing at the National Individual Events Tournament of the American Forensics Association.
Senior Heather Short of Pekin was named to the American Forensics Association's All-American Team. Only 15 students from across the country are selected for the honor. Short is the first NIU student to be selected as All-American.
Senior Nicole Carreno of Braceville placed in the top 13 in the category of Communication Analysis, and junior Randy Yedinak of Wyoming, Ill. placed in the top 13 in the category of After Dinner Speaking.
NIU has competed in the tournament for 20 years. For the eighth consecutive year, NIU students made it all the way to the elimination rounds.
Communication Professor John Butler directs the Forensics program. Other members of the coaching staff include Judy Santacaterina and graduate assistants Jim Yeager and Joe Raab.
