“Flamenco Vivo” to dance into DeKalb
as second performance in CAB Fine Arts Series

DeKalb – Prepare to be spellbound as Carlota Santana and the Spanish Dance Arts Company performs “Flamenco Vivo” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Egyptian Theater in DeKalb.

Flamenco dancing has a way of entrancing audiences with sultry tangos and tragic Soleares. Add a master choreographer who has been leading students in the best flamenco performances to hit the stage in the last 20 years, and you have something purely amazing.

Designated “the keeper of the Flamenco” by Dance Magazine, Santana has once again pieced together a story that surpasses cultures and brings together the lively and joyful Alegrias, the dramatic tangos that take root in basic Gypsy form, and the essential Soleares – turning it all into a romantic tragedy which thrives on the desperation and death of the characters. Described as “intense and vivid” by The Washington Post and “an infectious joyful celebration of music and dance” by The New York Times, “Flamenco Vivo” is sure to have you dancing in the aisles with amore.

Tickets are on sale at the CAB Box Office on the ground floor of the Holmes Student Center or charge by phone at (815) 753-3146. Cost is $5 for NIU students with a valid student ID; $17 for adults over 65, children 8-18 and NIU faculty; and $20 for general admission.

The Fine Arts Series is funded in part by the NIU Student Association. Additional funds are provided by the Illinois Art Council in cooperation with the National Endowment for the Arts. Promotional assistance is provided by the Daily Chronicle, Midweek, DeKalb County Weekly, WDKB 94.9 (B 95) and WNIU.
