DeKALB -- The NIU Department of Public Safety will stage a mock DUI Crash, 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 16, in Lot C2 near the Convocation Center.
The demonstration will take place just before the “Yell Like Hell” event, which is being held, at the Convocation Center.
The DeKalb Fire Department will be on scene to extricate the “victims” from a vehicle. A drunk driver will be removed from a vehicle and given field sobriety tests by the NIU Police. The Lifeline Helicopter will be coming from OSF St. Anthony’s Hospital and will be landing in the lot to remove one of the “victims.”
Mothers Against Drunk Driving will be on hand to provide educational material.
Lovett’s Towing of DeKalb will be providing vehicles to be used in this scenario.
Several student organizations will be providing role players and other support. These organizations include: Delta Gamma Sorority, Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity, and Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
Students and members of the community are encouraged to come to the event to observe the scenario. Members of the media are also encouraged to come to observe the event.
