What is the NIU OneCard and why should I my student have one?
A OneCard is your student's campus ID card. It is a multipurpose, state recognized, identification card that accesses all privileges on campus. The card is especially for students who live in the Residence Halls. It is used to gain entrance to the Halls after hours and to access meal options. Below is a complete list of all the privileges of your student's NIU OneCard ID.
- Huskie Bucks is an optional Prepaid Debit Account to be used for copying, laundry in the Residence Halls, and food services on and off campus. This can easily be set up on your student's OneCard before school starts.
- TCF National Bank is the only bank that has a branch located on NIU's campus. TCF Bank offers a Totally-Free Checking Account / ATM Services to students at NIU. The student then has the option to link the OneCard ID to this account and then may use it as an ATM/Debit card.
- Your student's weekly Meal Plan allows him to eat in the residence halls. This is done through Housing and Dining prior to the start of the semester and is accessed with the student's OneCard ID. NOTE: This option is only available for students living in the residence halls.
- The Recreation Center is accessed with your student's OneCard ID. This privilege is set up automatically for all fee-paying students taking classes on the DeKalb campus.
