I chose my major because … I enjoy working with and meeting new people, and can use marketing as a creative outlet. I feel that years from now if I decide to not work specifically in marketing, I will always be able to use the tools and skills learned from this degree.
My favorite class or professor at NIU is … Molly Swick, because she cares about each student on a personal level. She is so passionate about teaching that she makes it easy to want to attend class, and she often plays Jack Johnson’s music before class!
My favorite thing to do on campus is … to sit and listen to music by the lagoon.
Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is … the University Honors Program. I originally joined so I could have early registration, but ended up really enjoying the amazing free trips to different places and meeting a lot of fun new people.
When I have free time, I like to … take random pictures, go to concerts and spend time with my awesome friends and family.
One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … although you may be tempted to plan out your future completely, be flexible because life will throw you many curveballs along the way. Also, come prepared for bad weather … like snow during the first week of October and the last week of April!
One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … I can overcome tremendous challenges that come my way, but never have to go through them alone. No matter what happens, I will always have a loving support system of friends and family to back me up.
If I was guaranteed success, I would … open my own zoo and fill it with exotic creatures from across the world. I would try to create more realistic settings to help the animals feel more at home and use it as a place to rehabilitate injured or endangered animals. I would make the zoo admission completely free and open to anyone.
After graduation, I plan to … work as a marketing coordinator at a corporation. I eventually hope to work my way to being a marketing director and event coordinator at a large zoo.
The one NIU experience I will always remember will be … the candlelight vigil held for Virginia Tech on the one-year anniversary of its tragedy because I watched as a large group of NIU students came together to give back love and support to a school that gave so much to NIU. I experienced a sense of closeness with everyone there that brought the “NIU community” feeling to a whole new level.
