I chose my major because … I love caring for people. I like making people feel better, whether they had a bad day or are not feeling well.

My favorite class or professor at NIU is … Emily Sullivan’s nutrition class. She may have saved me from gaining the “Freshman 15!” Everything I learned in her class, I can apply to my whole life.

My favorite thing to do on campus is … play volleyball at the Rec Center. I could play for hours, and I have done that before!

Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is  … living in the Health House in Lincoln. I met a lot of people within my major going through the same things as me. By living here, I got to attend events and field trips and meet people that made NIU feel more like home to me.

When I have free time, I like to … catch up with my friends, because I spend a great deal of my time studying. I also like to spend time with my family on weekends.

One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … every professor has his or her own teaching style. Some teachers lecture from PowerPoint, some expect you to read the book, some don’t use the book at all and some expect you to take your own notes. It takes time to adjust, but once you find that pattern and learn how to study for their tests, your classes become much easier.

One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … I have good time management skills! It saved me from some unnecessary stress during the whole year, especially during finals week.

If I was guaranteed success, I would ... go on “American Idol!” I love to sing!

After graduation, I plan to … get experience in acute nursing care, and eventually I would like to study nurse anesthesiology.

The one NIU experience I will always remember will be ... Souper Wednesdays with the Honors Program. Coming in to get free chili and having intellectually stimulating conversations on cold winter days made the cold more bearable.
