I chose my major because … I have a strong passion for both literature and the Spanish language. Also, I feel that I can make a difference in individuals’ lives and in my community as a lawyer, and I would especially like to work with Spanish-speaking clients.

My favorite class or professor at NIU is … University 101. I absolutely loved my UNIV 101 class my freshman year because it was tons of fun, it provided me with the opportunity to meet new people and it helped me to truly embrace NIU as my home away from home. In fact, I am so passionate about this course that I will be returning next fall for my second year as a peer instructor!

My favorite thing to do on campus is … wander around the oldest part of campus by Altgeld Hall. The buildings are gorgeous and there is so much history. Just think of how many students have walked the same paths over the years!

Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is ... 735-1000. I honestly would have to say that I use this service weekly, and often daily. Whenever I need to contact any person or office on campus, there is always a friendly operator waiting on the other end of the line to help me out.

When I have free time, I like to … spend time with my family, friends and boyfriend; listen to music; read; write; chat; or just relax outside in the fresh air and sunshine.

One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … that there is a way for everyone to get involved and find their place on this campus. The Student Association website offers a list of every recognized organization by name and category.

One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … my potential for growth is endless. In the past year and a half at NIU, I have met hundreds of new people, gotten involved in tons of organizations on campus, made lasting relationships with NIU students and faculty, and even studied abroad in Costa Rica for a whole summer!

If I was guaranteed success, I would … write a collection of poems and short stories, or maybe even a novel.

After graduation, I plan to … attend law school and earn my law degree.

The one NIU experience I will always remember will be … studying abroad in Costa Rica last summer. Being immersed in a culture by living with a host family and taking courses from both NIU and Costa Rican professors was such an eye-opening and mind-expanding experience. If I could give one piece of advice to all university students, I would recommend that you study abroad.
