I chose my major because … of my care for people and my willingness to help others. Also, my passion for children and love for medicine in general played a major role in my decision to go into medicine.
My favorite class or professor at NIU is … English 103/104 with Stephanie Kummerer. She is very dedicated and in tune with her students. Her ability to stay active with her students in and out of the classroom is superb. I loved her English 103 class so much my first semester that I chose to take her English 104 class my second semester.
My favorite thing to do on campus is … hang out at the Huskies Den with friends. It is especially fun on Friday nights because it is cosmic bowl night. I also like to hang out by the fountain near Cole Hall because it is so relaxing and beautiful at night.
Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is … the university's “Unity in Diversity” theme. I am a firm believer in diversity and multiculturalism. Being at NIU, I have learned to accept and value the similarities and differences in people, ideas and opinions.
When I have free time, I like to … hang out with friends and spend time reading. I also like to spend time with my family and loved ones.
One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … that I would not eat as much as I did at home. Also, college does actually teach you how to be an adult and make adult-like decisions.
One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … that I have an impact on every individual I come in contact with. It is essential for me to strive for every goal I have and continue to make a positive impact on society.
If I was guaranteed success, I would ... be practicing medicine as a pediatrician at a hospital in Chicago. I would be spending time giving back to my community and uplifting the minds of children who have big dreams. Also as a part of my life plan, I would be married, raising a family and continuing to build my relationship with God.
After graduation, I plan to … go to medical school somewhere in Chicago and eventually be a pediatrician and work at Rush Presbyterian Hospital.
The one NIU experience I will always remember will be ... being a part of the 2006 orientation staff. It has really taught me things about myself and also about the university and how things operate on an administrative level.
