I chose my major because … I was tired of being left out of conversations about literature, and it was a personal goal to become more well-read. I also wanted to build my communication skills for graduate or law school.
My favorite class or professor at NIU is … Dr. James Giles. I was always amazed by his insights and the stories he would tell that would always end up relating back to the text.
My favorite thing to do on campus is … meet new people by going to different events on campus, be it jazz concerts, comedy shows, residence hall programs, lectures or speakers.
Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is … the universal phone number for NIU (753-1000). That may sound a bit strange, but whenever I need to get a hold of someone at NIU, all I need to do is dial it and I'm immediately connected with who I need to talk to.
When I have free time, I like to … just relax and listen to some jazz or catch up on the news.
One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … how careful you need to be when parking around campus… parking services is very fierce about its enforcement.
One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … that I'm capable of doing a lot more than I thought. Serving as an Orientation Leader taught me that I can do a lot more than I ever gave myself credit for.
If I was guaranteed success, I would ... run for president of the United States and try to reform the detached, polarized and highly influenced landscape of American politics to hopefully create something that the average citizen could trust and take an active role in.
After graduation, I plan to … join the Peace Corps. When I return to the States after that, I intend to go to graduate school or law school.
The one NIU experience I will always remember will be ... being an Orientation Leader. It was a magical summer. And although it hasn't quite happened yet, I'm sure I'll always remember helping to re-colonize the Theta Eta chapter of Sigma Nu here on campus.
