I chose my major because … I always loved chemistry, even as a kid. I figured it was either math or chemistry and math students don’t get lab coats.

My favorite class or professor at NIU is … CHEM 336 (so far) because I have a large interest in organic chemistry, but I’m only halfway through my major so I have plenty more classes ahead of me.

My favorite thing to do on campus is … research in the biochemistry labs because I’m being constructive for reasons other than money or getting a good grade.

Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is … the ease at which you are able to get yourself involved at this school. There are clubs, organizations, research groups and events everywhere. I personally recommend research for the academic types, but any way to introduce yourself to the faculty and meet new people will greatly improve your experiences.

When I have free time, I like to … play the keyboard and read novels. I’m a big fan of Isaac Asimov so I always carry one of his books in case I’m stuck with nothing to do for a while.

One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … how much you have to study before an exam.

One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … it is really easy for me to be outgoing. I wasn’t in high school, so I was happy to see a change.

If I was guaranteed success, I would … get a Ph.D. in math and biochemistry and study chaos theory. Yeah …I’m boring – lol.

After graduation, I plan to … become a professor in math or chemistry

The one NIU experience I will always remember will be … living in the dorms. You meet a ton of people and there’s always something to do. Everyone should do it for at least one year.
