I chose my major because … I love writing! English has always been a passion of mine, and I hope to eventually get a master's degree in it so I can write books and write for magazines.

My favorite professor at NIU was … all of my English professors so far because they help me work toward my dream of becoming an official journalist. Without Emily Kingery (ENGL 103) and Amy King (ENGL 104), I would not have a better writing style. They have helped me correct my mistakes and grow as a writer.

My favorite thing to do on campus is … going to the Recreation Center. I believe to be successful in life you have to achieve a balance between the mind, body and soul. The Rec helps with the development of the body.

Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is … being part of Black Male Initiative. It helps me realize that no matter how hard life may seem, I always have a brotherhood to count on and just to have fun with.

When I have free time, I like to … write about social issues such as student involvement in organizations and race relations. I usually write about how we can improve ourselves individually and collectively.

One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … weather changes drastically! I expected a normal range of temperatures with each season, but I should have been more prepared by bringing at least two types of appropriate clothing for the seasons.

One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … that my life calling is to help others. I never knew until I started joining organizations the satisfaction and joy I get from helping others.

If I was guaranteed success, I would ... help other young African-American males find their place in life, whether on or off a college campus. Once I have a career I want to give leadership and development opportunities to the youth by offering college scholarships, job opportunities, etc.

After graduation, I plan to … apply for a position at a writing company, hopefully one that is involved in the media, such as movies and television. I hope to write a few books and write for a major magazine, such as Ebony.

The one NIU experience I will always remember will be ... meeting new and different types of people. I like the fact everyone has something new to teach me. The diversity and culture on this campus has led me to befriend all people.
