I chose my major because … at a young age, I was always interested in the different components of business and in what makes a well-balanced business. I feel it provides excellent career opportunities and a strong foundation for upward career mobility.

My favorite class or professor at NIU is … Dr. Isabelle Sabau for Art History 292 because she makes the learning material so much more meaningful. I’ve always been very interested in art and her knowledgeable passion for the subject made the class much more interesting.

My favorite thing to do on campus is … to attend NIU sports events in order to capture great photographs. I also enjoy walking around the East Lagoon in order to unwind and relax before and after exams.

Outside of the classroom, my favorite thing at NIU that really enhances my experience here is … participating in the activities that the University Honors Program has to offer to its students. This is a great way for new students, such as myself, to meet people.

When I have free time, I like to … head over to the Music Building, sit down in front of a piano and just play. This is my way of relaxing and relieving my stress. I also like to play golf, listen to music on my iPod and relax outside on a sunny day.

One thing I wish I knew about actual college life before I got here is … that life as a college student would be so stressful. However, there is one luxury, and that is to take the time to appreciate the semester breaks! As the final days of the semester approach, save your sanity and your GPA by making a good study schedule and sticking to it.

One positive thing I have learned about myself since coming to NIU is … that if I put my mind to a task, then I am capable of doing a lot more than I thought I could have done. It is not easy living with a learning disability.

If I was guaranteed success, I would … give back to the community by talking to teens with learning disabilities. Sometimes the future for those students does not seem bright or exciting, and most of the time it is scary and paved with failure. I hope that, with my success, I can help bring up their spirits and be a role model for students.

After graduation, I plan to … go onto graduate school and to sit for the CPA exam. I hope to one day open up my own photography studio and accounting practice.

The one NIU experience I will always remember will be … how supportive the Center for Access-Ability Resources’ department and faculty were by offering me many resources in order to help my academic progress and professional development. I don’t think that I could succeed without all their help.
