Joseph Rodriguez is an active performer, soloist and clinician in Chicago and New York City, and is the first trombonist to be accepted into the prestigious Artist Diploma program at The Juilliard School. He is also active in Chicago where he is the Principal Trombonist for the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra (currently on leave) and Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mr. Rodriguez has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, South Bend Symphony, and the Juilliard Orchestra, and he is a founding member of the Lincoln Park Brass, a premier brass group based in Chicago. Recently, he performed the Mozart Requiem in Carnegie Hall for the fifth year commemoration of 9/11.  Mr. Rodriguez also played in the world premiere performance and recording of Shulamit Ran’s Fault Line, a chamber work commissioned by the Chicago Symphony’s MusicNOW series. 

He was selected as a participant for the prestigious 2005 Alessi Seminar, an intensive 10-day seminar where the top trombonists in the world study with master teacher Joseph Alessi.  He has also participated in the National Orchestral Institute and the Brevard Music Center.  From 2003 to 2006 Mr. Rodriguez was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  He has worked with world-class conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, Roberto Minczuk, Pinchas Zukerman and Michael Stern.  As a jazz musician, Mr. Rodriguez has toured Germany, France, The Netherlands and Switzerland in 2001 and 1999 with the UTA Jazz Orchestra. 

He has performed with Tony Bennett and, on one occasion, for Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.  Mr. Rodriguez has given master classes at DePaul University, Northern Illinois University, Del Mar College and Olivet Nazarene University, and has appeared as a soloist with the Northwest Indiana Symphony and Bradley-Bourbonnais High School Band.

Mr. Rodriguez holds a Master of Music Degree from DePaul University and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. His primary teachers include Joseph Alessi, Mark Fisher, Jay Friedman, Charles Vernon, Darren McHenry, Dennis Bubert, and Andrew Russell.
