R. Brett Goad is a native of Galesburg, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Western Illinois University, receiving both his BA and MA in Choral Music Education. In his 35 years of teaching, he served as the choral director in six high schools: LaSalle-Peru Twp., Macomb, Lake Park, Hinsdale South, Downers Grove North and Providence-St. Mel. Along with his music responsibilities he also served as the Director of Student Activities at Hinsdale South HS for nine years. At present he also serves as an Adjunct Professor at North Central College and Illinois State University.
Awards include being named the 2009 Student Activity Director of the Year by IDSA (Illinois Directors of Student Activities). In addition, he received the 2009 Most Influential Educator Award by the Hinsdale South Student Council. Lastly, he also received recognition by the “Those Who Excel” program.
He has held various leadership positions within the Illinois Music Educator Association and the Illinois Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. He currently serves as the President-ACDA Central Division (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio). Brett also serves on the Western Illinois University Alumni Council.
He has served as a guest conductor/clinician/adjudicator throughout Illinois and the Midwest. Throughout his career, he has also served on the staff of summer music camps at Western Illinois University, Eastern Illinois University, University of Illinois and the Show Choir Camps of America.
Presently, he sings in the Downers Grove First United Methodist Church Chancel Choir as well as the FUMC Four Men’s Quartet.
Brett has been married to his wife Sue for 34 years. They have lived in Woodridge, Illinois for the past twenty four years. They have one grown child, Rachel.
