The NIU Chamber Choir is a select 24-voice vocal ensemble whose membership is comprised of vocal performance and music education majors at the graduate and undergraduate level. The NIU Chamber Choir has achieved an international reputation for artistic excellence and has received particular acclaim for their interpretation of contemporary repertoire. In December 2007, Chamber Choir will premiere a new choral work by Sir John Tavener that was commissioned specifically for this ensemble. Recent convention appearances include the MENC National Convention, April 2008, the Inaugural National Collegiate Choral Organization, National Conference in San Antonio, 2006 and the Illinois ACDA Summer Re-Treat 2006. Under Dr. Johnson's leadership the Chamber Choir was invited to serve as the resident chapel choir at Worcester Cathedral, Worcester, England, 2006 and the choir has performed at international choral festivals in Sweden and Denmark in 2004, and Poland in 2002.
