Faye Seeman

Faye Seeman has been recognized as one of the most diversely-talented harpists in the Midwest.

She founded the Kithara flute, cello, and harp trio in 1980, which has been regularly-featured on WTTW Chicago’s "30 Good Minutes," at the Chicago Cultural Center concert series, and in major recital venues throughout the country.  In addition, the group has produced two CDs: "Beau Soir, an Evening of Chamber Music," and "A Kithara Wonderland."   Several of Faye's arrangements for the trio have been published by Lyon and Healy West, and through Kithara Publishing.

As principal harpist of the renowned Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra and the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra since 1992, Faye has toured Europe, the Canary Islands, and performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.  In summer, 2007, she spent her 16th year as a faculty member of the Birch Creek Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.

In June, 2006, Faye commissioned Chicago composer Gustavo Leone to write a concerto for harp and chamber orchestra, which was premiered in Door County and received rave reviews from critics.  It has since been performed in California, at the 2007 American Harp Society Institute in Chicago, at Wheaton College, and with the Rockford Chamber Orchestra.  She also commissioned Dr. Leone to write a new piece in honor of her teacher, Lucile Lawrence, for solo harp, which premiered in September, 2007, at the Lucile Lawrence Centennial Celebration in Muncie, Indiana.

As co-founder of the Zig Zag jazz harp quartet (piano, harp, bass, and drums), Faye is dedicated to composing and creating alternative forms of improvisation.  The group recently recorded their first album, "Caught," scheduled for release in early 2008.

Ms. Seeman is a licensed Kindermusik instructor (early childhood music).  She received her Master of Music in harp performance from Boston University, studying with Lucile Lawrence, and her Bachelor of Music in performance from Eastern Michigan University, studying with Jill Bailiff Reyes.
