Need to return early for Fall semester?

Standard NIU residence hall opening for Fall 2009 is 9:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20th. All campus residence halls will be open for occupancy from that time forward.

You may reserve your fall room for early arrival by sending in the request form  from the link below.

If you need to request to move in to the residence hall before 9:00 a.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009: Download the form from the "Sign up to request early move-in" link below and send it in to the Residential Adminstration Office. There is a $50 a day early arrival charge for each day you are booked in to your room prior to 8/20/09. The early arrival charge is added to your Housing & Dining bill on your Bursar's account. The first day residents are eligible for early arrival is Sunday, August 16th, 2009.

Once you have submitted an early arrival request you can cancel that request up until Thursday, August 13th, 2009, by emailing housingdining@niu.edu from your NIU Z ID email account or by sending a letter under your signature to the Residential Administration Office. After August 13th, the charges for any requested early arrival are not refundable, whether you check-in on that date or do not check-in until after official hall opening.

Some university departments have administrative arrangements for early arrival discounts with Housing & Dining for participants in their program. If you need to request to move in early due to participation with the program of a campus sponsor who you believe is arranging a waiver for your early arrival fee (NI Guides, Huskie Marching Band, Dining Services staff, etc.), you use the same process to reserve your room for early arrival and the same charges will initially appear on your Bursar's bill. There is a space at the bottom of the form for you to identify your group affiliation. The program with which you are participating is responsible for notifying you if you will, or will not, receive a discount for the early arrival fee. Housing & Dining staff can not negotiate this eligibility with individual students.

Sponsoring departments/programs, which have been extended discounts are responsible for sending Housing & Dining a list of students who are eligible for those discounts.Students who are on lists submitted by the beginning of August may not ever have a bill posted to their account. If you are on one of the eligibility lists that gets processed later your discount should show as a credit on your Bursar's statement by the end of the second week of Fall classes. If you do not see a credit by that time, contact the faculty/staff of your sponsoring department to notify them that you did not get a credit. Housing & Dining will only apply credits with the authorization of the sponsoring group coordinator, we will not add discounts at the request of individual students.
