The Work Request Office is the single point of contact for any facilities related questions or repair needs in the residence halls. This office processes work requests from both students and staff. The Assistant Director of Residential Facilities oversees the Work Request Office, which is staffed by full-time, part time, and student employees.
2. What does the Work Request Office do?
This office both records and submits the work requests to the Physical Plant. The Work Request Office does not send a repair person to perform the work. The Physical Plant dispatches work orders to the craftspeople.
3. What is the Physical Plant?
NIU Physical Plant staff includes professional union craftspeople that practice various trades. The craft shops consist of carpentry, electrical, elevator operations, painting, plumbing, refrigeration, key control, and grounds. Craft foremen prioritize the work orders they receive from the entire campus community to decide which requests are most urgent. One of their chief considerations is to maintain security and safety in the residence halls.

5. What types of problems should I report here?
Report any damage or conditions to any part of your residence hall or room. For telephone problems contact NIUTEL (815) 753-8100. For any computer or internet related problems to RESTECH (815) 753-6267.
6. Can a Physical Plant worker enter my room even if no one is present?
Yes. When you submit a request through the Residential Facilities Work Request Office, you are granting Physical Plant employees permission to enter your room in order to fix the problem.
7. How long does my repair request take?
From the time you make your repair request to the time a craftsperson is dispatched should be no longer than 7-10 days.
