All current residents can now select a room for 2008-2009. New students and off-campus students must apply for housing before selecting a room.
Doubles-as-Singles: Permanent single rooms are currently available in Grant D Tower and Stevenson Towers, but next year Doubles-as-Singles (standard double rooms assigned and billed as a single room) will also be available in Douglas Hall, Lincoln Hall, Neptune Halls, and Grant C Tower. A total of 220 spaces will be allocated to this option.
Current on-campus resident- Students who want to share a room with another current on-campus student as a roommate may select use the roommate pull in option in SWSA to pull the second person in as their roommate. For a person to log on and pull you in as a roommate, you will need to give them your NIU Z-ID number and your personal lottery number and your meal plan and Huskie Bucks preference. Do not give anyone your NIU Z-ID password.
Current off-campus NIU student- Off-campus students will need to e-mail their Z-ID number to
housing-dining@niu.edu . We will set up the account and notify students within a dew days to reutrn to the Web site to select a room. Once the application has been activated, the off-campus resident will be eligible for roommate pull-in by the current resident. For a person to log on and pull you in as a roommate, you will need to give them your NIU Z-ID number and your application number from the letter you received after applying, and your meal plan and Huskie Bucks preference. Do not give anyone your NIU Z-ID password.
Student new to NIU for Fall 2008-If the new student has been admitted to NIU and completed their housing application by the time the current resident is selectiong their room, the new student will be eligible for roommate pull-in by the current resident. For a person to log on and pull you in as a roommate, you will need to give them your NIU Z-ID number and your application number from the letter you received after applying, and your meal plan and Huskie Bucks preference. Do not give anyone your NIU Z-ID password. If the new student has not applied for NIU Housing yet, the current student can send the new student the room number of the space they selected, so the new student may select the other space if it is still available at the time they become eligible for room sign-up.
Residence hall contracts are for a full academic year (August-May) as long as the student is enrolled at Northern Illinois University during the contract period. If you are not prepared to commit to live on campus, do not sign-up for a room. Students are not typically released from their contract to commute from home, move in with a friend, or change to off-campus housing. On-campus housing offers students the opportunity to be released from their contract to support specific academic programs that involve full-semester out of country experiences:
