Financial Cents Staff

Our Graduate Assistant coordinates the Financial Cents program and oversees the Peer Educators. The GA works to help educate the NIU Community on the importance of financial literacy.

Financial Cents Peer Educators assist students and the local community with understanding the importance of financial planning and money management during their college career and beyond.

Paul joined the OSAS team as a graduate assistant in September of     2013. Paul completed his B.S. in Exercise Science from Eastern Illinois University and his M.S. from NIU in 2008. Paul is currently pursuing his Doctor of Physical Therapy (D.P.T.) at NIU.

Paul previously held a graduate assistant position at the NIU Student Recreation Center where he was responsible for intramural sports and sport clubs. After graduating, Paul worked at Rawlings Sporting Goods for 5 years where he held the position of Brand Marketing Manager. He was responsible for Rawlings' social media and business to consumer advertising. 

Paul loves being active and his hobbies include playing sports, skiing, weightlifting, and spending time with his wife and daughter.

Katherine is currently working on her B.A. in Community Leadership and Civic Engagement with a minor in Sociology. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school at NIU. In addition to the Financial Cents Program, Katherine is an active participant in the Residence Hall Association and her Hall Council creating programs and events for NIU residents to enjoy themselves. She enjoys bowling, 80’s movie marathons, and spending time with her fellow residents, friends, and family.

Marco Farias is a marketing major here at NIU. This is Marco’s first year with the program and he is excited to build his experiences. He plans to finish up his undergraduate degree here at NIU and possibly pursue a higher degree in the future. He is planning on starting his own business in the future. He enjoys being a part of numerous activities including sports and on campus clubs while in school.

Lisa Holland is a mathematics education major at NIU.  She plans to teach high school mathematics while earning her masters and doctorate in pursuit of becoming a professor after graduation in 2016.  Also in her free time, she is an avid reader and loves to get involved in various clubs and organizations on campus.  Lisa is looking forward to her first year in the peer educator program.

Angela Isom is currently a Family Individual Development major and a Psychology major at NIU. She is planning on pursing her Masters and PhD in clinical psychology after graduation in 2014 at NIU. In her spare time she enjoys making her own DIY projects. She also enjoys integrative medicine, mentoring and anything science related. Spending time with family has always been a priority in her life. She is looking forward to a blossoming future.

Evelyn Sorto is a mathematics major at NIU. She has a passion for Math and would love to pass on her love for it to her future students. She is determined to be a high school Math teacher. This is her first year joining the financial cents program, but is motivated to help students that are going through the same problems we all did as we transitioned into NIU. She is outgoing and excited and cannot wait to change lives in the future. Her hobbies include running, makeup, and of course Math. She encourages you not be a stranger and contact her.

Heather Stolz is a psychology major here at NIU. She stared with the Financial Cents program last year and we are happy to welcome her back again this year. She is planning on teaching third grade after graduation in 2016. She also plans on pursuing her Masters at NIU. She enjoys yoga, cooking, and being with friends and family.

This is Tyler’s first semester working with the Financial Cents program, though he joins with years of experience in the world of finance.  Tyler worked in the leading financial institution in his home town before coming to NIU to study secondary education.  Beyond Economics, Tyler is also studying history and political science.  He prefers cats to dogs, vanilla to chocolate and diet to regular Mountain Dew.  Tyler most looks forward to helping peers who are worried about money, and helping them understand what resources are available to them.
