Engineering and Engineering Technology Honors Program
The College of Engineering & Engineering Technology teamed up with the University Honors Program to create a new, customized honors program for engineering and engineering technology students.
The new initiative allows the University Honors Program to welcome academically motivated CEET students to NIU and get them off to a healthy start. They will have access to smaller classes, the ability to enjoy the Honors Program’s many benefits, and the option of immersing themselves in an active and engaging community. During their first two years at NIU, honors students will complete their university level 100-200 honors coursework. After a student’s first two years, CEET’s faculty take the lead in determining what technical content in the engineering discipline is appropriate for honors education.
Benefits of the being a CEET honors student:
- Advantage when applying for jobs and grad school
- Access to the University Honors Program tutoring and lab facilities
- Simultaneous recognition as a university honors and a CEET honors student
- Collaboration with all CEET departments for a more well-rounded student
- Specialized coursework that extends beyond the textbook
The Dean’s Message
“An active partnership between the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology and the University Honors Program is the right thing to do because I think our students come with the highest patience, they are willing to work hard, and they are pretty ambitious in terms of academic goals.” Dean Vohra continued, “so to me, this makes perfect sense that the students who are pursuing programs in engineering pursue the honors program as well.”
