About the Academic Advising Center

The Academic Advising Center (AAC) was established in 2004 to work specifically with students who are undecided about their majors.  Each year a significant number of students enter Northern Illinois University without choosing a major.  Many of these students may have questions about who they will see for academic advising.  Students without majors or affiliation with one of NIU's six undergraduate colleges are assigned to the AAC for their academic advising needs.  The AAC works with "undecided-any college" students from the time they arrive on campus during orientation until they've made an informed major choice.

The AAC provides a variety of services to help students achieve their personal, academic, and career goals at Northern Illinois University.  The student-centered staff advises students as they develop meaningful academic plans compatible with their educational and life goals.  The AAC also supports the distinct nature of advising within the colleges and academic departments at NIU.

Reminder - ALL students who are Undecided Any College will have an advising hold on your MyNIU Account  each term. To avoid having an advising hold placed on your account remember to meet with an Academic Advisor each and every semester to discuss course planning! 815.753.2573
