Hi! My name is Rebecca Ramirez. I am a recent NIU alumni and proud to be a Huskie! As a student at NIU I was involved in many organizations such as: Latina Assistance Program , Mentoring for Academic Success, Voz de La Alianza Latina Estudiantil and Gamma Phi Omega International Sorority Inc. just to name a few.
My student involvement and memorable experiences at NIU lead me to my current position as an admissions counselor. As an admissions counselor, I visit schools all over the Chicago land area. I enjoy visiting schools because it allows me to tell students about the many great opportunities NIU has to offer. I love seeing the excitement on student’s faces when they hear about all NIU has to offer. I love being able to help students make an educated decision when it comes to college and their majors.
When on the road I get a lot of questions, one being “why did you choose NIU”. I am always quick to respond that it was a school that I felt comfortable in. I loved my experience at NIU since the moment I came to my first Open House. I would advise students to do just that, visit colleges that you may be interested in. A visit to a university will tell you instantly whether or not you can see yourself as a student. Another piece of advice to students would be that you research your schools. Ask questions like: what organizations do you have on campus? or what does your university have to offer?
Coming to college is a big step, but one that will change your life. I always tell students to make an educated decision; this is the best way to go about choosing your school. College is a learning experience. It’s a great time for you to explore who you are as a person and meet all kinds of different people. This is why it is so important students chose a college that fits them as a person.
Thank you for stopping by. I look forward to meeting you on campus. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, I am always willing to help students.
Good luck with your search for colleges.
GO HUSKIES!!
