Willie Mickell
I’ve been at Northern Illinois University since 2000. I have been involved in various organizations such as the Debate Team, Black Graduate Student Association, Public Relations Student Society of America, and my all-time favorite the Northern Star Newspaper.
Additionally, I worked at the Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center for 3 years coordinating entertainment and sporting events for the students to attend.
After all of this excitement, I found my calling for the admissions office. On a bright afternoon of April 2006, I was called to become an admissions counselor. As an admissions counselor, I have the opportunity to educate students and their parents of what a wonderful place Northern Illinois University is to attend. Also, I have an opportunity to share my own personal experience as an undergraduate student/graduate student attending Northern Illinois University. My outside interest includes playing basketball, golf, chess, and writing when I have free time.
Currently, I visit all of the City Colleges of Chicago to include Richard Daley College, Harold Washington College, Kennedy-King College, Malcolm X College, Olive Harvey College, Harry Truman College, and Wilbur Wright College. I also visit Harper College, Highland Community College, Kishwaukee College, College of Lake County, Rock Valley College, Triton College, Waubonsee Community College.
While on location at these colleges, I meet with prospective students to counsel and discuss the transfer admission process for Northern Illinois University.
Good luck with your college search and I look forward to meeting you.
