Missy Gillis" The Northern Illinois University Transfer Center strives to provide outstanding service in a professional and friendly manner. We serve our students, community college colleagues and NIU community in a team-oriented environment that is first and foremost student-centered" - Transfer Center Mission Statement
My career in Admissions began as a student worker stuffing packets for prospective students at Elmhurst College, and here I am today!
My favorite part of the job is working with students and their families. I have a particular interest in transfer students and their unique concerns. I am very involved in regional and national organizations related to Admissions and have attended and presented at the “Institute for the Study of Transfer Students” for several years.
My husband (Chad), daughter (Bailey) and I love to spend time walking at the local park with our beagle (Snoopy). Our favorite yearly activity is our week long vacation at our family cottage in Michigan. Our home has become famous for our Halloween Haunted Front Lawn. Chad and I play on a coed softball team and Bailey comes to watch kids in the skate park. No one loves cards and games more than me. Family card nights are a blast and lately, Scrabble is my favorite board game.
NIU has so much to offer, we are in an ideal location for cooperative education and internship opportunities. I encourage you to visit. If you chose NIU as your transfer institution, be sure to get involved. Start by going to Friday Fest the weekend before school begins. Maybe I will see you as a student enrolled in my UNIV 201: The Transfer Experience course.
