Hello future Huskies! I am so excited that you are interested in pursuing your college education here at Northern Illinois University. I am confident that after you have had the chance to review our fantastic programs and visit the campus, you will love NIU as much as I do!
As an admission counselor, I travel to schools in Northwestern Illinois as well as the Rockford, Rockton/South Beloit, and Crystal Lake areas. When I am not traveling, I meet with prospective students and their families to guide them through the admissions process and provide general information about the university. I also work on projects including our Counselor Football Reception, IACAC's Northwest District Seminar, and manage the "Ask Victor E, Huskie" information site.
When I am not working, I enjoy running, riding my bike down twisty forest trails, and spending time with my family. I plan to run my fourth marathon this May in Rockford and am hoping to complete it in 4 hours or under! I am close to completing my Master's Degree in Education, with an emphasis in Student Affairs. I hope to someday work in advising with student athletes or, if possible, to manage a College/Career Resource Center in a high school.
Here is my infinite wisdom on applying to colleges:
College is a great time for you to get to know a lot about who you are as a person. You have the chance to learn from different people on campus, not just professors. Make sure you are picking institutions where you can feel comfortable, happy, and open to new experiences!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know a little more about me. I really look forward to meeting you on campus, or hopefully at your high school! If you ever have any questions, please feel free to give me a call or shoot me an email.
Best wishes in your college search.
Go Huskies!
