Greetings and Salutations to All!
I hope this message finds you in good health, better spirits, and a constant state of forward progress and momentum!
I am one of the newest members of the Admissions team. As an alumnus of NIU, I am ecstatic to return as an Admissions Counselor and serve the institution that made me the man I am today. While studying to receive my Bachelor’s degree, I took advantage of the amazing leadership and organizational involvement opportunities NIU has to offer and as they say, really “found” myself. I served as the Vice President of two fraternities, lived and worked as a Community Advisor for two years, was the Vice President of Programming for the outstanding Campus Activities Board (CAB), and the Director of Cultural Affairs for the Student Association (SA) among many other things. Needless to say I was somewhat of a busy body, but connecting with fellow students, truly understanding the various and multifaceted functions of the university, and taking an active stance in my education have all served as factors to me taking this position.
I look forward to traveling and meeting with prospective students, their parents, and anyone else I may encounter along the way. If I can offer any advice to anyone looking to further their education at Northern or anywhere, it would be this: Never be afraid to try something new. If you have a comfort zone, throw it out the window and watch it shatter. The best way to grow is to do something you would not have done otherwise. If you like it, good. If not, great! But believe it or not, you have learned an important part of who you are for the time and effort. If you are going to invest your energy and money in college, get the most out of it.
I hope to see you on campus soon. Look me up and come visit the office– it should make for a great story.
