The Center for Southeast Asian Studies Lecture Series is sponsored by Center for Southeast Asian Studies and is funded in part by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Title VI Program.

Friday, March 24 – December
NIU Anthropology Museum Exhibit. Anthropology Museum, Stevens Building, 1st floor.

“Islam in Southeast Asia: Common Themes; Diverse Expressions.” Funded by a major grant from the Illinois Humanities Council, this exhibit features religious and ceremonial clothing, brass ware, banners, wood carvings, paintings, and Arabic writing.
Guest Curator: Nagasura T. Madale, PhD, Vice President for Research and Extension, Capitol University, Cagayan de Oro, Mindanao, Philippines.  

Sunday, April 9 - Thursday, May 11
ACCESS Program/Philippines: “Bridging the Gap.”
The Access to Community and Civic Enrichment for Students (ACCESS) Program is an international exchange program that enables over 30 Muslim, indigenous, and Christian youth and adult leaders from Mindanao, southern Philippines, to participate in an intensive month-long program at NIU.

Stir Friday Night! 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m., Carl Sandburg Auditorium, Holmes Student Center.
Kick-off this month-long celebration with Chicago’s premier Asian American sketch comedy troupe. Stir Friday Night! uses comedy as a tool to dispel stereotypes and bridge understanding among the various social, racial and intergenerational groups within the community.

"Southeast Asian Culture Night"
7:00pm,   Douglas C/D Cafeteria
This event will present a variety of ethnic foods, dances, and musicians representing all of Southeast Asia.  In addition to entertainment and food, there will be various artifacts displayed around the cafeteria depicting the arts of Southeast Asia.   Along with these artifacts will be informational panels representing each of the countries located in Southeast Asia.  These will be set up around the cafeteria for students to walk around and learn about the culture, traditions, foods, clothing, etc of the selected area.  This event is free for all NIU students.
