I am involved in a leadership role because...

On Wednesday, March 18th, many of the NIU Asian American Alumns visited the combined Asian American Association and Philippine Student Association combined meeting. Many of alumns served in the NIU community as leaders. They came back to help enlighten the community and share their hands on experience with their leadership roles, memories, and advice for the students. The guest list included Manuel Acance, Shane Adriatico, Mark Capulong, Christina Carpio, Arnold Huelva, Augustus Caesar "BBoy" Mangubat, Roniciel Joy Molano Vergara, Leal Musni, Michelle "Mimi" Nguyen, and Liciele Tumang.

Mangubat and Vergara were the main speakers of the meeting to share their stories and experiences at NIU and explained how their involvement helped them after college. Mangubat served as AAA President. Part of Vergara's speech was interactive. She had students fill out a Post-It to fill in the blanks, "I am involved in a leadership role because..." or "I am not involved in a leadership role because..." This activity allowed the student community think about what they can do to improve and encourage the students to stay optimistic.Vergara served as the first and only Asian American female Student Association President as of today.
